FAQs

If you still have questions, please send me an email and I will be happy to provide more information.

How long are lessons?
  • Each lesson is 30-minutes long. I focus on various skills during each lesson and recap what we learned at the end. One hour lessons are open to swimmers who are advanced as they have the stamina and skill level to complete longer sessions. Participants must complete an initial 30-minute lesson before signing up for an hour lesson. This ensures maximum safety for the swimmer.
How much do swim lessons cost?
  • I offer private 30-minute swim lessons for $60 per session, and $220 for a 4-lesson package ($10 savings). I make high-quality instruction more accessible compared to local swim academies, which typically charge between $96–$138 for the same lesson length. With 17 years of competitive swim experience, over a decade of teaching, and certifications in CPR, AED, and First Aid, I bring both expertise and safety to every lesson. My goal is to provide effective, personalized instruction at a fair price—helping swimmers gain confidence and skill without the high cost.
How can I book a swim lesson?
  • All swim lessons are booked using my online Calendly. When booking a lesson, the form will confirm swimmer and parent details (if applicable) as well as the skill level of each participant. Individual lessons and lesson packages need to be paid for 48 hours prior to the start of the first lesson. Confirmation of my cancellation policy will be asked at the end of each form. If you do not see a time slot available, please email me to find a time that works.
Do I need to bring anything?
  • Swimmers need to provide their own goggles, swim cap (silicone/latex for long hair), swim suit, and towel. I provide a kickboard and pool toys. Pool floaties are not to be used during lessons. I recommend Speedo Reflective Vanquishers in a light color in either a junior or adult sizes depending on the participant age.
What ages do you teach?
  • I only teach ages two and above, this includes adults of all ages. You are never too old to learn how to swim or improve your skills!
Where do lessons take place?
  • I teach at a variety of pools across Livermore and Pleasanton. These include but are not limited to: May Nissen, The Club @ Livermore (member only), Ruby Hill Community Pool (resident only), and The Club at Ruby Hill (member only). I am available to teach at in-home pools or HOA pools if the pool is heated and lessons are permitted.
What is your cancellation policy?
  • A cancellation is defined as anything within 24 hours of the scheduled lesson time. No refunds for cancellations, as I reserve my schedule in advance to teach. Missed or canceled lessons within that window will not be rescheduled or refunded.
Packages: I Allow 1 reschedule per package if requested with 48+ hours’ notice. Any remaining lessons after the 3-week period will be forfeited.
Can I get in the water with my child?
  • I do not require nor suggest parents enter the water during a swim lesson as it distracts children. My goal is to teach independent water safety and confidence.

"Sofia is an outstanding swim instructor! While coaching our 9-year-old son, she has provided excellent technical feedback that has really improved his strokes. She also connects with him in a way that fosters focus, confidence, and character development. In addition, Sofia gave effective lessons to our younger children (ages 3 to 6), expertly tailoring her lessons to each child’s needs.  She is consistently reliable, punctual, and warm, making every interaction a pleasure.  We highly recommend her!"

"My son is now 8 and has been very apprehensive of swimming for years. Group classes at a local swim academy did not move the needle at all. He was embarrassed at birthday parties being the only kid who couldn’t swim. I am so glad I found Sofia! It only took a few classes with Sofia for him to flourish, and we are so incredibly grateful! She is patient, engaging, calm, and helped my son build his confidence level in the water."
